Agong: Those who reject Rukun Negara unfit to be Malaysian
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar today said that any individual who rejects the principles of the Rukun Negara is not worthy of being regarded as a citizen of this country.
His Majesty said the Rukun Negara, introduced on Aug 31, 1970, is a national pledge and commitment by all Malaysians to restore unity and strengthen social harmony among the nation’s diverse communities.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar today said that any individual who rejects the principles of the Rukun Negara is not worthy of being regarded as a citizen of this country.
His Majesty said the Rukun Negara, introduced on Aug 31, 1970, is a national pledge and commitment by all Malaysians to restore unity and strengthen social harmony among the nation’s diverse communities.
“Therefore, I urge all parties to uphold every principle of the Rukun Negara and to practise it as a guiding framework in daily life as Malaysians.
“Any Malaysian who refuses to adhere to the principles of the Rukun Negara, I advise, the person is not worthy of being called a Malaysian citizen,” said Sultan Ibrahim.
The king was speaking at the investiture ceremony held in conjunction with His Majesty’s official birthday celebration at Istana Negara.
Also in attendance were Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and members of the cabinet, including Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, as well as foreign dignitaries.
Strength of unity
Sultan Ibrahim said every citizen must be united, tolerant and respectful of one another while adhering to the principles of the Rukun Negara.
His Majesty said national unity forms the foundation of Malaysia’s strength, ensuring economic progress, racial harmony and long-term stability.
In this regard, Sultan Ibrahim reminded all parties to reflect on the country’s painful history, particularly the May 13, 1969, racial riots, which occurred when certain parties acted excessively, disrespected others and failed to uphold mutual respect and the country’s sovereignty.
“That incident has destroyed the unity of the people and undermined the stability of the country. Do not let history repeat itself,” said the king.
The ceremony marked the third investiture conducted by Sultan Ibrahim since His Majesty’s installation as Agong on July 20, 2024.
In total, 161 individuals received federal orders, stars and medals in conjunction with His Majesty’s official birthday celebration this year.

All these hoo haa started with rearing of pigs. I am a Muslim and I am wondering, why are many Muslims getting worked up over non muslim rearing and consumption of pork?? Nothing in the FC or the Quran calls for the elimination of pigs. Well, if everyone is worried about the effluents from the industry, propose more sanitary farming. Are not these non muslims equal Malaysians as well? Why should they give way to these egocentric narcissistic self-serving people who only care about their own interests and fail to regard the feelings and needs of non muslim Malaysians. "pollution issues affecting public interests and the spread of African S.ine Fever:. Come off your high horses lah. We also have mad cow disease off and on, Avian Influenza and Salmonellosis. And these industries also product a lot of polluting effluents. Don't forget. humans are the worst polluters. Royal decree??? Stop hiding behind the Royalty or are you saying you don't know the Law??. His Highness the Selangor Sultan is angry over the pollution and we can respect that by implementing more clean and hygienic methods of rearing pigs with proper sanitation. Aiyooo what lah. Grow up or grow a brain please.
