Football

• The Malacca and Penang state football associations rejected the Asian Football Confederation’s suggestion for the Football Association of Malaysia's (FAM) honorary president position to be taken out.

  The two member associations maintained that the honorary post remains part of FAM's revised constitutional framework, arguing that reports of its removal are inconsistent with the draft statutes under consideration, The Scoop reported.

  The state football administrators therefore stressed that any discussion about the post should not be conflated with previously approved appointments.

  Yesterday, AFC said it has sought to remove the honorary president role from the proposed 2026 FAM statutes because such roles are no longer considered relevant.

Johor election

• Johor BN Youth has called on all “Bangsa Johor”, regardless of race, religion or background, to give the coalition a strong and decisive mandate in the upcoming state election.

  

  In a joint statement signed by four leaders of the coalition’s youth wings, they said this is essential to ensure political stability and the continuity of the state’s development agenda.

  They also expressed full support for caretaker menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi to continue leading Johor BN into the next state election, and to remain in charge of the state government thereafter.

  They said this backing is grounded in the state government’s strong track record under his leadership across several aspects, including the state’s economic performance and social welfare programmes.

• Onn has dismissed a list of BN candidates circulating on social media and messaging apps, stressing that it is false.

  

  In a Facebook statement today, he said any announcements regarding BN candidates will only be made through the party’s authorised and official channels.

  He urged the people of Johor to engage in politics in a mature, responsible and ethical manner, warning that misinformation could undermine harmony, stability and the democratic process in the state.
