  • BN is setting its sights on improving on its 2022 Johor election result by winning more than 40 of the 56 seats contested, said coalition chairperson, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

    He also confirmed that caretaker menteri besar and Johor BN chairperson, Onn Hafiz Ghazi, would remain the coalition’s “poster boy” for the election, Bernama reported.

    He said Onn Hafiz has submitted a list of proposed candidates for the election.

    “The candidates are still being assessed. At the same time, we must also respect the candidates put forward by BN’s other component parties,” Zahid said.

  • Hamzah Zainudin’s Reset movement will be “entering the democratic arena” with other parties in the upcoming Johor election, said the movement’s coordinator, Zulkifli Bujang.

    In a statement today, the former Johor Bahru Bersatu chief said the movement supports the state assembly’s dissolution, urging voters to elect transparent leadership with integrity and the ability to usher in political change.

    He described the state election as a “referendum” of the people on the performance of the caretaker administration.

  • PKR election director Amirudin Shari has said the party’s list of candidates and targeted seats for the Johor polls will be finalised in the next two weeks.

    He told a press conference that for the past two months, PKR had been working on its strategy for the upcoming election.

  • PAS syura council secretary Nik Zawawi Salleh said the party’s top leadership will decide whether to continue its cooperation with Bersatu amid escalating tensions in Perikatan Nasional.

    Speaking to reporters after the council’s meeting at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Nik Zawawi said the decision to defer the matter to the party’s central leadership was made after reviewing a report from the central committee as well as findings from experts tasked with studying the issue.

    The council was expected to decide on PAS’ future relationship with Bersatu at its meeting today.

    Nik Zawawi said Bersatu’s internal conflict had affected the stability and strength of the opposition coalition, particularly in advancing its agenda of Malay-Muslim unity.
