Umno is open to any form of political cooperation that is based on the principles of sincerity and trust for the sake of national stability, said party secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

However, he stressed that Umno remains committed to supporting the Madani federal government until the 16th general election.

“Umno will continue to support the unity government formed after GE15 following the decree of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the time, until the next general election,” he said in a press conference last night after an Umno supreme council meeting.

Asyraf’s remarks come amid political tensions between BN and Pakatan Harapan following Johor BN’s decision to contest the Johor state election on its own.

PAS is believed to be eyeing cooperation with Umno once again, with the severing of ties with Bersatu believed to be a first step towards that goal.

Meanwhile, Asyraf defended Johor BN’s decision to go solo in the state polls, saying the coalition formed the state government in 2022 before the Madani pact came to be.

He also said the Madani pact was a federal one, and was not binding to any state government.
