Samsuri rebukes Bersatu, demands respect for PN discipline

Perikatan Nasional chairperson Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has criticised Bersatu for bringing the coalition’s internal affairs into the public domain.

Referring to a media statement issued by Bersatu leaders on June 23 regarding matters discussed at a PN supreme council meeting, Samsuri demanded that all component parties respect organisational discipline and collective decisions.

"I wish to stress that PN is a political coalition that operates based on its constitution, organisational discipline, and collective decisions.

"Every member party, including Bersatu, has full space to voice its views, raise objections, and defend its respective positions during meetings.

"However, once a decision has been made through the coalition's official mechanisms, all parties are obliged to respect it.

“PN cannot be turned into a platform for any party to selectively accept decisions while disputing resolutions that do not align with its position," he said in a statement, which was also shared on social media.

Bersatu vice-president Ahmad Faizal Azumu previously questioned PN's decision to accept Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) as a member of the coalition, claiming that the move would only exacerbate existing internal problems.

He said the objection was raised because PN was still dealing with issues among its component parties following PAS's decision to sever ties with Bersatu.

Faizal also claimed that the application by PCM - which was allegedly taken over by the Bersatu splinter group aligned with former leader Hamzah Zainudin - was irregular after checks revealed issues involving the party's leadership positions and use of the party name.

He said the application was submitted by the party’s purported secretary-general, Saifuddin Abdullah, although official records showed its secretary-general for the 2026-2027 term was Yeo Kwee Kwang.

He further alleged that the leadership lineup submitted used the name Parti Wawasan Negara, even though the application was made under PCM's name.

Additionally, he said Bersatu representatives had also raised the matter during PN's emergency supreme council meeting and were of the view that the meeting should have been postponed pending feedback from the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

According to him, the ROS had earlier informed them that several documents submitted by PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan to the department were incomplete and lacked signatures.

Johor polls preparations

Commenting on preparations for the Johor state election, Samsuri confirmed that seat negotiations had been concluded amicably through PN's official mechanisms.

The Terengganu menteri besar added that he had also signed letters of appointment for PN candidates who would contest in the election.

He urged all component parties, leaders, and election machinery to stop the infighting and focus fully on grassroots work.

Touching on the issue of using the coalition's symbol, Samsuri reminded parties that using the PN logo comes with significant political responsibilities.

"Any party entrusted to contest using the symbol must take full responsibility for candidate selection, election machinery, campaign management, as well as the performance of the seats contested.

"This firm stance demonstrates the commitment of PN's top leadership to ensuring that the coalition remains focused on offering leadership with integrity and policies that champion the people.

"The impact of weak internal discipline could undermine the machinery's focus, whereas PN's main priority at present is to bring new hope for the well-being of the people of Johor," he added.
