Johor state election

• Gerakan has suspended its Johor state liaison committee with immediate effect after it allegedly withdrew unilaterally from contesting the Johor state election without consulting or obtaining approval from the party's central leadership.

  

  Party secretary-general Wong Chia Zhen said the party's central committee, which met in an emergency three-hour meeting yesterday, unanimously deemed the move a serious breach of party discipline, collective leadership principles and procedures set out in the party constitution.

  Pending further investigation and disciplinary action, the central committee appointed deputy president Oh Tong Keong as acting chairperson.

• PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and his Gerakan counterpart, Dominic Lau, braved the scorching heat to support Perikatan Nasional's Maharani hopeful, Anuar Hayan.

  

  Lau's presence comes amid his party's decision to suspend its Johor committee over its allegedly unilateral move to withdraw from the state election.

  Berjasa president Zamani Ibrahim also made an appearance, alongside approximately 150 other supporters waving PN flags outside the Muar District Office.

  

• In a Facebook post today, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said PAS election machinery at the parliamentary and state assembly levels in Johor has been instructed to shift their campaign work.

  

  "The PAS election machinery at constituency and state assembly levels in seats contested by Bersatu in the Johor state election has been instructed to instead carry out duties in constituencies contested by PAS and other Perikatan Nasional component parties," he posted.

  PAS officially ended its political cooperation with Bersatu on June 9, citing heightened dissatisfaction with the latter party over several political movements it made.

• At least one independent candidate, Wang Wee Siong, has joined the contest for Puteri Wangsa as nominations open at SMK Dato Onn, Tebrau.

  Others who have filed their nominations for the southern Johor hot seat, where Muda is defending the party’s sole incumbency through candidate Rashifa Al-Junied, are PKR’s Simpang Renggam division chief Maszlee Malik; BN’s Teow Chia Ling and Parti Bersama Malaysia’s Nicholas Vincent Paul.

  

  Outside the nomination centre, a small crowd of Bersama “mousedeers” appeared undeterred, even when surrounded by the larger Pakatan Harapan and BN supporters.

  Incumbent Puteri Wangsa assemblyperson, Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz, led Muda’s crowd to support Rashifa.
