Onn takes oath as Johor MB, state holiday declared tomorrow

Machap assemblyperson Onn Hafiz Ghazi took his oath as Johor menteri besar for the second term, following BN's landslide victory in the state election that concluded yesterday.

In a statement, the Johor royal press office announced that Onn Hafiz was sworn in before Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

Bernama reported Onn Hafiz as arriving at Istana Bukit Serene at 3.41pm and leaving at 4.50pm.

A resurgent BN retained control of Johor by winning 48 seats - eight more than it won in the last state election in March 2022.

Pakatan Harapan, which is now the only opposition in Johor, won eight seats, down from the 12 it held in the last state assembly.

In a statement after being sworn in, Onn Hafiz thanked Tunku Ismail and vowed to continue discharging this trust with utmost loyalty for the state's progress and the well-being of the people of Johor.

Onn Hafiz also declared tomorrow a state holiday, in appreciation of the voters, adding that this was consented to by Tunku Ismail.

"I am aware that every decision made from this point onwards will have an impact on the lives of millions of Bangsa Johor. Therefore, I pray that Allah SWT will continue to guide every step I take, grant wisdom in making decisions and strengthen my resolve to always act fairly, with integrity and sincerity in carrying out this responsibility

"At the same time, I would like to share that, with the consent of Tunku Ismail, the Johor government has declared Monday, July 13, as a special state holiday for Johor.

"This declaration is a gesture of appreciation to all Bangsa Johor who have fulfilled their responsibility and trust as citizens in the 16th Johor state election," he said.
