Tabung Haji RCI

• The Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4 Center) has called for an end to political appointments across all federal statutory bodies.

  In a statement today, it urged the government to extend a recommendation from the royal commission of inquiry’s (RCI) report on Tabung Haji beyond the pilgrim fund.

  The RCI recommended amending the Tabung Haji Act 1995 to bar active politicians from serving on the board or its subsidiaries.

  C4 Center also reiterated its call for a Political Financing Act mandating public disclosure of political donations while banning corporate and anonymous contributions.

• Bersih chairperson Faisal Aziz has proposed forming a special parliamentary committee to oversee Islamic institutions such as TH.

  He said the committee, which could be formed under Article 82 of the Dewan Rakyat Standing Orders, should comprise Muslim MPs from across the political divide.

  

  “Checks and balances mechanisms are important as Islamic institutions such as TH are important because they involve the significant interests of Muslims in this country,” he said in a statement today.

• Eight MACC officers were deployed to the Tabung Haji headquarters today after the anti-graft agency formed a special task force to investigate the RCI's findings.

  MACC chief commissioner Abd Halim Aman said the team would identify documents related to matters raised in the RCI and other issues under investigation.

  He added that investigators are also tracking down several individuals to record their statements, Bernama reported.

Negeri Sembilan polls

• The Election Commission has not received any official complaints over alleged money politics or bribery during the Negeri Sembilan election campaign so far.

  EC chairperson Ramlan Harun said those with information on such offences should report them to the MACC or police, as corruption matters fall under their jurisdiction.

  “We only receive reports related to minor election offences, and we have already taken action on them from time to time,” he told reporters in Tampin today, as quoted by Bernama.
