SNAPSHOT | AirAsia suffers RM527.16m net loss in Q2; Warisan MP denies resigning as federal deputy minister

Airline business

• AirAsia Group Bhd, formerly known as AirAsia X Bhd, posted a net loss of RM527.16 million for the second quarter ended June 30, mainly due to higher fuel expenses and foreign exchange losses.

  Bernama reported that in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the group stated revenue for the quarter stood at RM5.08 billion.

  “The loss was mainly attributable to higher fuel expenses after average fuel prices rose 66 percent from the preceding quarter, driven primarily by heightened geopolitical tensions arising from the conflict in West Asia,” it reportedly said.

  

  The airline group also incurred a RM330.97 million net foreign exchange loss as the ringgit and other regional currencies, including the Thai baht, Indonesian rupiah and Philippine peso, weakened against the US dollar during the quarter.

  Fuel remained its largest expense at RM2.80 billion, while maintenance and overhaul costs came to RM537.34 million and user charges totalled RM506.51 million. For the first six months of 2026, AirAsia Group recorded a net loss of RM682.04 million on revenue of RM11.03 billion.

Politics

• Warisan’s Lahad Datu MP Yusof Apdal denied resigning as deputy minister in the federal government, describing the claims circulating on social media as false and malicious.

  

  According to Bernama, Yusof, who is the sole Warisan politician holding a federal government post, said the spread of false information could mislead the public and tarnish his reputation.

  The deputy science, technology and innovation minister also urged the public not to share unverified information and to refer to official sources for accurate information.

Blood donation

• The Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor has issued an urgent appeal for type O and AB blood donors as supplies of both types are running low.

  

  In a Facebook post, the hospital’s Transfusion Medicine Department said donors can check the Johor Bahru Blood Donation Campaign Schedule page for locations.

  Blood donation drives are also being held at the Johor Blood Donation Centre at Mid Valley Southkey today through Sunday, from 10am to 6.30pm; AEON Mall Bukit Indah today, Saturday, and Sunday from 10am to 3pm; and at the HSA Blood Donation Centre today and tomorrow from 8am to 4.30pm.
