“Fairly, freely and impartially” was what Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said when asked to comment on the allegations against PKR de facto leader after it was officially classified by the police as sodomy.

lim guan eng dap 240408 02 When met at the Parliament today, the DAP secretary-general said, “We want the police to investigate properly.

“They have the responsibility to conduct the their investigation fairly, freely and impartially.”

More importantly, Lim said, this is a test for the police force, whose image has been tarnished by what many perceived as politically-motivated investigations over the years.

“The question is will they (police) restore the credibility or reinforce the negative public perception that they are an agent of the ruling powers to do their dirty political work,” Lim added.

“If the investigations can be done professionally, whether by doctors of police officers, we have to allow to proceed,” said Hatta.

The opposition Pakatan Rakyat coalition today released a joint statement saying that the fresh sodomy allegations was "nothing more but a repeat of the 1998 incident to destroy Anwar's political career".

"This is done as a retaliation against the possibility of Pakatan Rakyat forming federal government in the near future."

The statement was signed by PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and PAS deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa.

Found signs of anal sex

The duo were responding to a report by New Straits Times that police have officially classified the case as sodomy.

According to deputy inspector-general of police Ismail Omar, who have already received the Hospital Kuala Lumpur medical report on Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan and considered it a case of sodomy.

The report further cited that sources within the hospital revealed that Saiful was brought to the hospital last Saturday complaining of constipation.

But further checks revealed that there were signs of anal sex, and upon questioning Saiful, doctors learnt he had been sodomised.

Saiful, who was first a volunteer for PKR and later a personal aide to its de facto leader, promptly lodged a police report at the hospital alleging he had been sodomised by Anwar .

Following that, the former deputy premier said he feared for his life and was holed up at the Turkish embassy for a day before coming out after receiving assurances from several ministers.

Anwar, too has since filed a defamation suit against Saiful for his allegations.
