Rosmah's solar case

The Court of Appeal has allowed the prosecution’s application to stay the hearing of Rosmah Mansor’s bid to adduce additional evidence in her solar graft case appeal.

The stay was granted after both parties informed the panel that they agreed to postpone the proceedings pending the prosecution’s appeal at the Federal Court.

On Sept 1, the court ordered the Kuala Lumpur High Court to examine Rosmah’s application, which was based on claims by key prosecution witness Rayyan Radzwill Abdullah that he was subjected to prosecutorial pressure during the trial.

Papagomo vs Guan Eng

The Kuala Lumpur High Court has dismissed controversial blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris’ bid to suspend payment of RM280,000 in damages to former finance minister Lim Guan Eng and his son, Clint Lim.

FMT reported that judge Roslan Mat Nor ruled that Wan Azri, also known as Papagomo, failed to show any special circumstances warranting a stay pending his appeal.

Wan Azri (above) argued that paying the sum would render his appeal academic and expose him to bankruptcy proceedings. The court rejected both arguments and ordered him to pay RM5,000 in costs.

In May, the court found Wan Azri liable for defaming the pair in a March 2020 Facebook post alleging that Clint was detained while smuggling RM2 million into Singapore and that Guan Eng went there to “rescue” him.

Wan Azri was ordered to pay RM200,000 to Guan Eng and RM80,000 to Clint in damages, plus RM40,000 in costs.

Malacca polls

Malacca Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh said the date for dissolving the state legislative assembly ahead of a state election has yet to be set.

Bernama reported that Rauf (below), who is also the Malacca BN chairperson, said several state administrative matters must be settled before the dissolution.

“I have indicated that the Malacca assembly will be dissolved on a Friday, as there are still many matters that we need to settle in governing the state,” he told reporters in Alor Gajah today.

He said the date would be announced once finalised.

Rauf’s remarks followed a WhatsApp claim on Tuesday that he and Malacca governor Ali Rustam had signed documents to dissolve the assembly during a meeting at the Malacca International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Ayer Keroh.

'Disgraceful' Rohingya remarks

Lawyer Latheefa Koya slammed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s alleged denial of responsibility for the presence of Rohingya refugees in Malaysia as “disgraceful and amoral”, saying his remarks go against Islamic principles.

Responding to Anwar’s claim that the Rohingyas were brought in during former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak’s tenure, the former MACC chief described it as a “historical lie” aimed at scoring “cheap political points” against Umno and PAS.

She also accused Anwar of echoing the “despicable views and rants” of xenophobes, including those who spread “hate propaganda” against the Rohingya in the public domain.

New football chief

Malaysian Football League president Ghani Hassan has been elected Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president for the remainder of the 2025-2029 term, Bernama reported.

Ghani (below) secured 20 votes to defeat Selangor Football Association deputy president Shahril Mokhtar, who received five votes in a straight fight at FAM’s extraordinary congress in Petaling Jaya today.

The election was held to reconstitute FAM’s leadership after its entire executive committee resigned en masse in January amid fallout from the heritage players’ document-forgery scandal.

The International Federation of Association Football (Fifa) accused FAM of using falsified documents to field seven players, who were subsequently suspended for 12 months, while the national body was fined 350,000 Swiss francs (RM1.7 million).
