'Daulat Tuanku' chants greet Tuanku Muhriz as supporters rally at KLIA

About 200 supporters gathered at KLIA to greet Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, a day after attempts to oust the Negeri Sembilan ruler, whose status as the state’s Yang di-Pertuan Besar is now subject to a legal dispute.

Some supporters came wearing yellow T-shirts with an illustration of the royal and words that read “Waghih-waghih Nogori sayang Tuanku Muhriz” (people of Negeri Sembilan love Tuanku Muhriz).

Tuanku Muhriz’s son, Tunku Ali Redhauddin, dressed casually with a baseball cap, also made an appearance to greet supporters, who were gathered in front of the airport’s special lounge.

The ruler himself, exiting the lounge around 10.50pm, thanked his supporters and the media, prompting them to respond with chants of “Daulat Tuanku!”

While he shook hands with supporters, his wife, Tuanku Aishah Rohani, was sighted wiping tears from her face.

The crowd followed Tuanku Muhriz all the way out to a waiting BMW, shouting “tangkap penderhaka” (arrest the traitors).

As he sat in the car with his window pulled down, supporters sang the Negeri Sembilan state anthem.

Organiser berates ruler’s rivals

In a press conference prior to the royal’s arrival, rally organiser Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin spoke with harsh condemnation of Tuanku Muhriz’s rivals.

Describing them as having committed “treason”, Megat called upon authorities to take appropriate legal action, including by arresting or locking them up.

“They have actually, according to Islam, committed a huge sin.

“In plain language, they have committed a very serious crime,” he claimed.

Earlier today, a poster of Tuanku Muhriz’s return went viral on social media, urging a gathering of his supporters at the KLIA Terminal 1 parking tonight.

The gathering was organised by Profans, Waris Dato Siamang Gagap, Waris Negeri Sembilan, and Pekan.

The political turmoil in Negeri Sembilan centres on the powers of Negeri Sembilan’s four ruling chieftains, the Undang Yang Empat, to decide who sits on the throne.

Earlier, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Ismail Lasim (above) said the state government was moving to gazette the proclamation declaring Tuanku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar the new Yang di-Pertuan Besar, replacing Tuanku Muhriz.

The move came after he confirmed that the state administration would accept an April 19 proclamation by the Negeri Sembilan territorial chieftains to remove Tuanku Muhriz.

However, the Negeri Sembilan Council of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar and the Ruling Chiefs (Dewan Keadilan dan Undang; DKU) has reaffirmed Tuanku Muhriz’s position as the state’s Yang di-Pertuan Besar.

The council, which acts as an advisory body on customary affairs and the appointment and removal of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, stressed that there is no vacancy or successor to the post “so long as the office is lawfully occupied”.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers has also deemed the Negeri Sembilan state exco's decision on Tuanku Muhriz invalid, stressing that they do not have unilateral powers to terminate or vacate the ruler’s office.

It mentioned that the proclamation’s validity and effect must be determined through constitutional and legal processes.

DKU secretary fired amid fiasco

Meanwhile, the state’s royal imbroglio escalated after Tuanku Nadzaruddin sacked DKU secretary Raja Norazli Raja Nordin.

In a letter dated today, Tuanku Nadzaruddin (above) said the decision, effective immediately, was made by exercising powers under Article 25 of the Negeri Sembilan State Constitution.

“Whereas, in exercise of the powers under Article 25 of the Negeri Sembilan Constitution, I hereby inform you that your service, His Highness Raja Norazli Raja Nordin, as secretary of the DKU, is terminated with effect from Sept 17,” he said in the letter, in which he addressed himself as the new Yang di-Pertuan Besar.

Raja Norazli was also ordered to immediately cease performing any functions or duties, or making official representations in the name of the DKU.

He was further instructed to return all official documents, confidential files, meeting minutes, office access codes, and other property belonging to the DKU, as well as to vacate the secretary’s office.

"This letter of termination shall not prejudice any rights of mine, nor those of the DKU, to take any action deemed appropriate in respect of your conduct while discharging your duties, or presenting yourself as secretary of the DKU," Tuanku Nadzaruddin said.
