Najib's conditional pardon only applies to SRC International case - AG

The conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak today only applies to the jail sentence imposed for his SRC International case.
Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar (above) said this when contacted by Malaysiakini this afternoon.
"Only for SRC (International) case," he said in a brief text message.
Earlier today, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar granted Najib a conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest.
However, the clemency comes with a caveat: Najib is required to pay a RM50 million fine and comply with all conditions imposed under the pardon.
Dusuki's clarification means Najib may have to return to prison as he is still facing several other criminal cases in court.
These include a 15-year jail sentence meted out by the Kuala Lumpur High Court last year, which convicted him on 25 charges in a separate 1MDB case. The court also ordered Najib to pay an RM11.38 billion fine.
Najib is currently appealing the conviction.

The former Pekan MP is currently serving his jail sentence over seven counts of criminal breach of trust, abuse of power, and money laundering involving over RM42 million belonging to SRC International.
He was first convicted on all the charges by the High Court in July 2020 following a lengthy trial, receiving a 12-year imprisonment alongside an RM210 million fine.
Najib began serving his jail term on Aug 23, 2022, after both the Court of Appeal and Federal Court dismissed his appeals and upheld his conviction.

However, on Jan 29, 2024, the Pardons Board halved his 12-year prison sentence to six years and reduced the RM210 million fine to RM50 million.
At that time, the board was chaired by then-Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
The decision brought forward Najib's scheduled release date to Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of the reduced fine.

One at a time. So far it is the SRC case. Najib will cross the bridge after 2028 and submit another pardon bid for the 1MDB imprisonment. It is interesting to find out what are all the conditions that Najib must comply with inaddition to paying the RM50 million fine.
Malaysiakini … please do your homework and set the quality bar higher. Is the RM50 Million fine, imposed today, the original fine (as reduced by the previous Agong), or is this RM50 Miilion a separate and independent fine? If the later, what is the status of the earlier RM50 Million fine? Will NR still be subject to additional time imposed (presumably under house arrest) in the event he fails to make good on the original fine? You have a communication channel with the AG, so please use it to get the answers and update your readers accordingly. This is not rocket science and Malaysiakini should have ensured that a clear and comprehensive report was issued for your readers in the first place. Do you expect us to be satisfied with a half baked report out!!
