The Penang government has passed an eight-point resolution calling on the United Nations to invoke relevant preceding resolutions to immediately stop the Israel's military aggression in Gaza Strip.

It also called on the Malaysian government to submit a written demand to UN secretary-general Ban Ki Moon and president Miguel D-Escoto to hold a special UN general assembly session to deliberate on the formation of a special International Court of Justice to try and punish Israeli leaders for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

israel gaza attack palestine 150109 04 The resolution was passed unanimously following a three-hour public forum organised by the Pakatan Rakyat state government in Dewan Sri Pinang last night.

Read out by state executive councillor Abdul Malik Abul Malik, some 600 people attending the forum fully supported the resolutions that also condemned the bombing and mass killings of Tamils in Sri Lanka and civilians in several African countries by their respective governments.

The eight-point resolution called on the United Nations security council to enforce the UN resolutions of 242, 338, 446, 452, 465, 476, 478, 905, 1073, 1397 and 1515 to coerce Israel to stop its violence in Gaza.

It condemned the killings of some 1,000 Palestines, including 200 children, in Gaza, and called on the Tel Aviv government to agree to a ceasefire and reopen its borders for free human movement, trade and services.

It called on the UN security council to invoke the UN Charter 7 to stop Israeli troops’ violence and, Tel Aviv’s economic blockade and encroachment in Gaza.

End violence in Sri Lanka as well

The Penang government's resolution also urged the Israeli government to respect and adhere to international demands voiced by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

It also fully supported the 10-point resolution passed last week by the Malaysian Parliament that would be submitted to the European Parliament, Non Aligned Movement, and Organisation of Islamic Conference.

The Penang government also condemned the Colombo government’s bombing and mass killings of Tamil ethnic minority, including women and children, in the Jaffna Peninsular.

To date, an estimated half a million Tamils have fled their homeland to seek comfort and security elsewhere.

The resolutions called on the Tel Aviv and Colombo administrations, and several African governments, such as in Rwanda and Zimbabwe, to respect and observe international conventions and laws, and stop their crimes against humanity.

Among the panelists who spoke at the forum were Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Deputy Chief Ministers Muhammad Fairus Khairuddin and Dr P Ramasamy, state opposition leader Azhar Ibrahim, state PAS commissioner Salleh Man, social activist and writer Hishamuddin Rais and teducation unit head of the Consumers Association of Penang, Mohd Azmi Abd Hamid.
