PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim rapped a PKR Youth leader for resorting to the media to highlight his graft allegations on two state party leaders, describing it as "publicity stunt ala Umno".

"This is not the correct way. It seems to be an Umno tactic.

"If Amizuddin wants to resort to media stunt to publicise his claims then he is in the wrong party. He can’t behave like an Umno member merely because he did not get what he wanted.

"The party leadership will sternly explain this to him," the parliamentary opposition leader told newsmen at Sunway Carnival Mall in Seberang Jaya today.

He had accompanied Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to launch the free WiFi services in Permatang Pauh constituency, the first on Penang mainland.

The free WiFi coverage is part of the DAP-led Pakatan Rakyat state government efforts to encourage the people to use computer and internet to enrich their knowledge and skills.

Amizudin had alleged last Friday that two party leaders have received bribes from three quarries in the state. He revealed that he had documented evidence in his possession to substantiate his claims, while declining to disclose the identities of the state leaders.

Penang PKR has already set up a four-man special investigation committee headed by Penang Speaker Abdul Halim Hussain to probe into the graft allegation.

The panel will start its probe once it had received terms of reference governing the inquiry from the state liaison committee.

Dropped as Seberang Perai councillor

Last night PKR state liaison committee head Bayan Baru parliamentarian Mohd Zahrain Md Hashim received documented evidence from Amizudin to substantiate his claims that two PKR state leaders have received bribes.

The evidence had been handed over to Abdul Halim for the committee’s perusal.

Amizudin’s allegations was brushed aside by certain PKR leaders, claiming that he was merely letting out his frustration after being dropped recently as Seberang Perai municipal councillor due to poor performance.

Amizudin political foray to publicise his allegations together with documented evidence in the press and television news channels did not go down well with the party top leadership, incurring Anwar’s wrath.

Amizudin first exposed the alleged bribery on Feb 27 at a press conference held at the Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) office.

At last week press conference, he was adamant that he had the evidence like documents including bank slips showing money from a quarry operator being put into one of the alleged individual’s personal account.

However, he declined to show the said proof when asked to do so by reporters but beat around the bush about the allegation.

"I did not say that two state PKR leaders were involved in corruption, but I have the proof of the transaction," he said.

On the other hand, Amizudin himself has also been accused by local grassroots party leaders of receiving a bribe of RM5,000 monthly from a quarry contractor, owning four cars and having two wives.

Others in the investigation panel are assemblypersons - Deputy Speaker Tan Hock Leong (Machang Bubok), Anwar’s political secretary Sim Tze Tzin (Pantai Jerejak) and Penang Hindu Endowments Board commissioner VS Raveetharan (Batu Uban).

PKR state secretary Mustafa Kamal Mohd Yusoff assured that the committee would probe into all allegations without fear or favour.

"We will get into the bottom of the issues raised by all parties," he told Malaysiakini .
