‘Allah’ issue: Muhyiddin vs DAP
Muhyiddin Yassin claimed that a DAP minister in the Pakatan Harapan administration had proposed that the controversial Jill Ireland case be settled outside of court.
The Perikatan Nasional chairperson. who was the home minister at the time, said he had rejected this proposal.
In response, DAP national chairperson Lim Guan Eng challenged Muhyiddin to name the minister if he was not a ‘liar’.
The government’s move to withdraw its appeal against a High Court’s decision in Ireland’s case has provided fresh religious fodder for Harapan and BN’s rivals.
When Harapan was in power for 22 months until February 2020, Ireland - a Melanau Christian - was awaiting the court’s decision on her bid to use the word “Allah”.
The case was decided in her favour in 2021 when Muhyiddin was prime minister.
His administration initiated the appeal which the current government withdrew.

Non-Muslims in Sgor cannot use ‘Allah’
Although the government has withdrawn its appeal in the case of Sarawakian Jill Ireland, non-Muslims in Selangor, however, will not be able to use the word ‘Allah’.
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said state ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had issued a reminder on this in a 2021 decree, in line with a Federal Court decision on the matter in 2014 and a state fatwa in 2010.
The ban on the use of the word “Allah” for non-Muslims in Selangor dates back to 1988 when the Non-Muslim Religions (Control of Propagation Amongst Muslims) Enactment was legislated.

Amiruddin wants to be MB again
Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari hopes to be allowed to continue in the post after the upcoming state election.
However, the PKR leader said he would abide by the party’s decision on the matter.
Selangor had been BN’s crown jewel until Pakatan Harapan captured the state in the 2008 general election and retained it in the two subsequent polls in 2014 and 2018.
This time around, Harapan has joined hands with BN and would be facing Perikatan Nasional, which is seeking to replicate its green wave seen in last November’s 15th general election.
