Tengku Maimun's term ends with a bang
The government has decided not to extend Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat's tenure as chief justice for another six months.
This is despite four other federal court judges being granted six-month extensions earlier this year.
Court of Appeal president Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim also appears set to retire on Thursday without an extension.
Tengku Maimun is taking her retirement in stride, saying she has no issue with not being offered an extension.
She ended her term with a bang, leading a Federal Court bench that ruled the early notice provision under the Peaceful Assembly Act was unconstitutional.

Anwar, Rafizi tussle over judiciary's soul
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had already signalled on Monday that he would not be extending Tengku Maimun's term.
Instead, he said those pushing for her to get an extension were trying to politicise the judiciary.
Rafizi Ramli, Anwar's former PKR deputy president, pushed back against the premier's position.
Rafizi implied that those who wanted Tengku Maimun to stay for another six months were worried that Federal Court judge Ahmad Terrirudin Salleh may become more powerful and bypass more experienced judges.
Terrirudin was appointed as a judge right after he retired as attorney-general last year, and speculation is rife that he's being positioned to become the next chief judge of Malaya - the third highest post in the judiciary.

Anwar accused of undermining Sabah sovereignty
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has angered Sabahans again, and this time on both sides of the political divide.
Anwar is reported to have agreed with Indonesia to jointly develop the Ambalat sea block, where a huge crude oil reserve has yet to be tapped.
The problem is that Ambalat is a disputed territory between Malaysia and Indonesia, and is of importance to Sabah.
Anwar, however, said that the dispute should not stand in the way of joint development that would benefit both countries.
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister I Jeffrey Kitingan said that the PM did not consult Sabah on the decision and now owes them an explanation.
