Another fatal DUI crash, but politicians mum
Days after Amirul Hafiz Omar was killed in a drunk driving crash, another family lost three members after a lorry driver who tested positive for drugs rear-ended their van, causing them to crash into another lorry in the opposite lane.
The three were K Myakrishnan, 71, his wife, S Sevendai, 65, and the latter’s brother S Palamiandy, 75.
Myakrishnan and Sevendai’s grandchildren, aged 22 and 18, were also seriously injured in the accident, with the younger one now reportedly in critical condition due to brain injuries.
The accident occurred just 200m away from their home in Segamat, Johor.
However, unlike Amirul Hafiz’s case, where politicians were up in arms, few spoke about the Segamat crash.
The only notable Malay politician who commented was Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh, who also called for the driver to be charged with murder.

Madani Mart tries where Najib flopped
The Madani government is expanding its efforts to provide cheap groceries to the public, by opening up its first grocery store - Madani Mart.
The store was opened just over eight years after the last major government-run grocer, Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M), shut down in September 2017.
Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Fuziah Salleh - who is behind Madani Mart - however, denied that her business is a copy of the failed Najib Abdul Razak project.
The main difference, she said, is that the government isn’t putting any money into Madani Mart and that all the cost will be borne by operators who license the Madani Mart brand from her Yayasan Madani foundation.
