I refer to the letter Why are we subsidising Singapore cars?

Ahmad Jusoh, who disapproves of Malaysia 'subsidising' Singaporean-registered cars filling up petrol when in Johor Baru, is surely ignorant of the benefits Johor reaps from Singaporeans.

Only this year, the New Straits Times reported that, on average, around 23,500 Singaporeans visit Johor each day and that Singaporeans spend about RM225 per person while visiting Johor Baru. This means Johor reaps RM5.3 million a day from Singapore. Perhaps Ahmad Jusoh would care to add up the figures and see how much Johor earns in a year.

In 2005, due to adverse publicity, Singaporean visitors to Johor dropped by almost 14 percent to one million visits when compared to 2004. The drop in Singaporean visitors resulted in Johor losing almost RM22.5 million in foreign exchange earnings last year.

Lastly, it is unlikely and downright improbable that Singaporeans would endure the chronic traffic jam at the causeway just to fill up on our 'subsidised petrol'.

Let there be no denial, it is Singapore and Singapore dollars that is fueling much of Johor Baru's economy.
