The PAS central leadership have yet to hear from either of the conflicting sides in the Kedah PAS crisis on the outcome of the meeting it had late Saturday night to solve the issue.

“We have verbally informed them of our decision and have yet to hear from them officially,” PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali told a press conference today, adding that there was no deadline set.

NONE Mustafa ( right ) said the meeting in Alor Setar had decided to maintain the status quo, by retaining Azizan Abdul Razak as Kedah MB.

The two dissenting exco members Phahrolrazi Mohd Zawawi and Ismail Salleh must return as exco members, he said.

The meeting had also agreed to set up a steering committee consisting of PAS central leadership members to “observe, monitor and assist” states that are led by PAS and have PAS members in the top administration.

“We had this when PAS won Kelantan but it is no longer active. We will reactivate it,” he said, stressing, however, that the committee will not touch on administrative details of the states.

Mustafa, who was today flanked by PAS vice-presidents Salahuddin Ayub and Mahfuz Omar, said they were “optimistic” that the crisis was resolved.

“(The conflicting parties) had said they will accept any decision by the central leadership,” he said, adding that Phahrolrazi and Azizan had both presented their cases, but Ismail was not present.

However, Mustafa refused to disclose any details of the meeting, nor did he want to touch on the reason for the fissure.

Asked about news reports that Phahrolrazi, who is now deputy Kedah PAS commissioner, had insisted on taking over Azizan’s position as state commissioner he said: “We don’t know about that”.

The matter of seat allocation, nor the state’s implementation of the Universities and University Colleges Act, were also “not at all” brought up in the meeting at Seri Mentaloon in the Kedah capital.

Mustafa also sidestepped the question when asked if it was merely a personality clash.

He said he was “not aware” that Phahrolrazi had gone to Kelantan to seek support from PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat, as reported by The Star .

He remained “optimistic” that the conflict would have minimal effect on the Islamic party’s chances in the general election.

The tenure of Phahrolrazi and Ismail expires on March 7, while eight other exco members were re-appointed last week.
