Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has lashed out at the passive stance taken by the authorities which he says only served to emboldened the “merchants of hate and violence” in the country.

He said this campaign of intimidation will not cease until and unless action is taken to stem it immediately.

Lim ( left ), who is also DAP secretary-general, further demanded that Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi condemn and act against those responsible instead of condoning their campaign of violence and hate.

"...Or else the people’s wrath at such injustice shall be expressed peacefully and democratically in general elections and by-elections," Lim warned in a statement today.

Lim was referring to “another episode of a sustained campaign of hate and intimidation against freedom and public order” this morning, in which Malaysiakini ’s office in Bangsar was found splashed with red paint .

Photos of DAP MP Teresa Kok’s were also found taped to the building exterior wall and on a cardboard box containing a live duck.

It was only last week that Kok's office along Jalan Kuchai Lama was splashed with red paint and a dead chicken was found on the staircase.

On Feb 6, a group of Muslim NGOs protested against her in Kuala Lumpur, offering a bounty to slap her for producing a political satire video clip "Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014".

Lim said numerous police reports have been lodged on these incidences, and despite the fact he said Kok had been threatened with harm, no action has been taken on the culprits.

He added that Zahid has regrettably condoned the threats of violence against a woman by stating that no wrong has been done and refusing to act against these merchants of hate and violence.

He added that this was exactly the case in Penang in the last few weeks beginning with demonstrations by Umno leaders and supporters in Seberang Jaya, in which threats to repeat May 13 were made, provocative banners put up in front of churches,  Molotov cocktails thrown into a church compound, a police station in Bukit Tengah was fire-bombed and the desecration of a mosque with pork meat in Bukit Mertajam ( above ).

In addition, there have also been false allegations that Malay Bibles were being distributed to Malay children in a school in George Town, and that the Penang state government is planning to ban Friday sermons, Lim lamented.

"Although the allegations have been proven to be false and unsubstantiated, no action has been taken against those propagating these lies," Lim said.
