Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang ( left ) and Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua said the move by Selangor Umno means that Gerakan and MCA, who are opposed to the Islamic penal code, can no longer accuse DAP of inaction over the hudud issue.
"We call upon the BN partners to call for this motion to be withdrawn next week," Pua told a press conference at the Parliament lobby.
'PAS started it first'
However, Gerakan secretary general Liang Teck Meng in a separate press conference later insisted that PAS is still the first party to start the hudud discourse in the country.
"PAS started it first, and if DAP is sincere, they should cut ties with PAS," Liang (right) said.
He refused to give a clear stand from the party regarding Umno Selangor's move to push for hudud in the state, saying that Muslims are obliged to support hudud.
"We need to examine and see if there is practicality of having two penal laws co-exist," Liang said.
