The coming PAS central executive committee (CEC) meeting on Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim is still relevant despite the party's powerful Syura Council backing him, PAS central political bureau member Khalid Samad said today.

The Shah Alam MP also said it was pertinent for the menteri besar to answer the allegations against him.

Khalid ( right ) explained that the Syura Council looked at issues from a specific angle, such as hukum.

"(Also) this is because the decision made by the Syura Council is based on the belief that there was no abuse of power on the menteri besar’s part.

"Since the release of the dossier, it is up to the members to scrutinise all the information," he added.

Khalid today had asked the Selangor menteri besar to answer to allegations made against him.

In its dossier revealed earlier this week, PKR said there was conflict of interest on the menteri besar's part in settling his debt of RM59.5 million with Bank Islam.

PKR claims the person who brokered the out-of-court settlement for Khalid had benefited from the state through a project awarded soon after the Bank Islam settlement was hammered out.

'PKR will reconsider removing Khalid if...'

Meanwhile, Khalid said he believes that if the menteri besar could give reasonable answers, then "even PKR will reconsider removing him".

"PKR will even have to apologise to him," he added.

The Shah Alam MP also wants the menteri besar to answer to the allegations so that he can "support him with full confidence".

"He has until the CEC meeting of PAS, which is to be held on Aug 17, to answer the allegations."

Asked whether PKR's action against Khalid would further complicate things, Khalid said it was up to PKR to take any action against the Selangor menteri besar.

"Irrespective of what PKR does to Khalid, we still need to know the answers to the allegations.

"It is for his own good that he gives reasonable answers to the questions that I have raised," he added.
