The four former PAS state executive council (exco) members in the Abdul Khalid Ibrahim administration are not traitors, one of them said today.

Therefore, Sallehen Mukhyi, said DAP should not brand them as such as the quartet continued in their posts to defend the Pakatan Rakyat Selangor state government.

"Don't label PAS exco members as traitors. I think (DAP secretary-general) Lim Guan Eng doesn't understand the Selangor constitution," Sallehen added.

He asked Lim ( right ) to check back "his own speech and actions" and said Lim’s speech had its own interests, without mentioning which speech he was referring to.

Echoing him, PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar said that Lim did not realise that it was PAS that saved the Pakatan Rakyat Selangor government from collapse.

He said the state constitution mandates at least four exco members, and if PAS had quit the exco, the state government would cease to operate.

"PAS leadership has numerous times sought explanation over the action, but the DAP secretary-general chose to instead continue attacking PAS in public.

"Stop attacking each other, it doesn't benefit anyone.

"Pakatan must be stregthened and any differences which led to the Selangor crisis should be solved in a harmonious manner to regain the rakyat's confidence," Mahfuz said in a statement later.

Yesterday, Lim said he "regretted" the actions of the four PAS exco members who refused to resign to show solidarity with the six PKR and DAP exco members who were sacked by Khalid.

Not asking for posts

Earlier today, Sallehen and the three other former exco members met Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah after Azmin’s swearing-in today, but the Sabak assemblyperson said the meeting was not to ask for their posts to be retained.

"We didn’t ask. The sultan said thanks to the exco members and Khalid (former MB) for enabling the state government to function until a new menteri besar could be appointed," he said.

He said the fate of the four former exco members was in the hands of new Menteri Besar Azmin Ali.

"That is not the sultan’s power. The sultan merely approves the names that are sent in by the new MB," he said.

"If the menteri besar feels that the names put forth are appropriate, than the names will be approved," he added.

Sallehen said his party might decide to retain the same exco line-up representing the party in Selangor because each have "their own plans and can continue working".
