Newly-appointed Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali said today he will review his predecessor Abdul Khalid Ibrahim's sacking PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim as the state economic adviser.

In his maiden press conference after being sworn in as the new menteri besar, Azmin said he needed to "study the details" on why Khalid came to such a decision.

Yesterday, in one of his last acts as menteri besar, Khalid sacked Anwar as the state economic adviser and closed down his office.

Khalid's decision was announced late last night by Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) chief executive officer Faekah Husin, who cited redundancy and plenty of "slander" regarding the position.

Azmin also said that he would be holding a few more meetings to decide on the new state executive council line-up.

He said he has yet to decide on whether to retain the four PAS exco members who had continued serving under Khalid till his last day yesterday.

Azmin is hopeful that the new exco line-up would be sworn in by end of this week.

“We will have a meeting (with Pakatan representatives) and the sultan has decreed that the appointments of new exco members be done as soon as possible, and I hope this Friday we will have a swearing-in ceremony for them,” he said.

Azmin also said he would be reviewing the water deal that Khalid has signed with the federal government, but asked for time to do so.

“I’m not privy to the details of the agreement so I will have a meeting with the relevant people and heads of departments,” he said.

The scarce details and lack of consultation with the party behind the RM9.65 billion deal was among the reasons why PKR decided to replace Khalid and sacked him from the party after he refused to resign as menteri besar.

“Give me some time,” Azmin said.

He also pledged to work on reducing the crime rates in Selangor, and stressed that his administration would execute the concept of a developmental state.

However, Azmin did say that the administration of his arch political rival Khalid before him had given him a "good foundation" that he would like to build on.

"I was involved directly in Khalid's administration. He had put in place a good foundation in administering the state and, of course, my responsibility will be to continue policies that are for the people," he said.

However, Azmin did not specify which one of Khalid's policies he would be continuing.
