Selangor freezes funds for ex-MB's constituencies
The Selangor government has frozen the bank accounts meant for the disbursement of a government senior citizen scheme, for constituencies held by former menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
The Selangor government has frozen the bank accounts meant for the disbursement of a government senior citizen scheme, for constituencies held by former menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
According to Khalid’s special officer for the Port Klang state constituency Faekah Husin, the instructions were made through the state treasurer on Sep 25.
This is 48 hours after Azmin Ali was sworn in as the new Selangor MB.
She said that the order affects both bank accounts used to disburse the Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) programme for Khalid’s Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary and Port Klang state constituencies.
Faekah (left) said that the freezing of accounts is "vindictive politics".
"The new menteri besar not only punishes Khalid but residents of Port Klang and Bandar Tun Razak…
"(MB) Azmin Ali has started his career with a misstep that will destroy all respect the rakyat and civil servants may have," she said in a statement.
Goes against sultan
She added that the move also goes against the sultan’s call for all parties in the Selangor MB crisis to bury the hatchet and move on.
Although Bandar Tun Razak is in Kuala Lumpur, the Selangor allocates funds for such schemes via the parliamentarian for residents born in Selangor.
Those who were born in Kuala Lumpur before the city became a federal territory on Feb 1, 1974, are considered Selangor-born.
The SMUE also includes aid for funeral expenses, grocery shopping vouchers and cash aid on birthdays.
When contacted, the menteri besar’s office advised that the question be posed to Azmin at a press conference tomorrow.
Azmin replaced Khalid last week after months of political crisis in Selangor.
Khalid was prior to that sacked from PKR for refusing to resign as MB.
