The cabinet will ensure that the special task force investigating allegations against 1MDB will do its job without fear or favour, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin vowed today.

"The task force will have to report to thge cabinet and we, the ministers, will be there to ensure that the investigation is done without fear or favour.

"I'm confident that the task force will not side with anyone (even if) there is a perception that they are compromised because the prime minister is being investigated," he said.

The minister also pointed out that the top officials in the task force would not want to tarnish their reputations.

"If you look at the heads of these agencies, they, such as Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz (photo), are internationally respected.

"I don't think Zeti, or the others, want to put their reputation on the line by overseeing an investigation that is not credible," Khairy said.

Nation's reputation at stake

He then pointed out that Malaysia's international reputation was at stake now, and the task force must ensure that its report on the probe is credible and comprehensive.

"I don't want to see Malaysia's reputation go down the drain because of this issue," Khairy added.

The minister also argued that the task force has been proactive, and even raided 1MDB's office on Wednesday.

The task force has also frozen six bank accounts in relation to the case.

The joint-agency special task force includes Bank Negara, the police, and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and is headed by Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail.
