Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has clarified that DAP Seputeh MP Teresa Kok and PKR Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, who are in the Immigration Department’s travel ban list, are free to travel overseas.

 

Speaking to  Malaysiakini, Kok said that Wan Junaidi has informed her she could travel overseas but is only barred from entering East Malaysia, which has immigration autonomy.

 

Rafizi meanwhile is reportedly only barred from travelling to Sarawak, but not Sabah and overseas.

 

Kok also disclosed that Wan Junaidi ( photo ) added that the Immigration Department will update the information on its website.

Malaysiakini  is seeking Wan Junaidi’s confirmation.

 

Sin Chew Daily today reported that Kok, together with PKR Batu MP Tian Chua, Negaraku chairperson S Ambiga and Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah, were on the Immigration Department’s travel ban list.

 

Yesterday, several fervent critics of 1MDB, such as Rafizi, DAP Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua and The Edge Media Group owner Tong Kooi Ong, were requested to refer to the nearest Immigration office, upon checking their travel status on the Immigration Department’s website.

 

Not allowed to leave for Indonesia

Pua  found out about the ban when he was not allowed to leave for Jogjakarta, Indonesia, at KLIA2 yesterday afternoon. The immigration officer told him that it was from “instructions from above”.

However, ex-Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, one of the fiercest 1MDB critics, is not restricted from travelling overseas.

 

Kok also urged the Immigration Department to be more professional in barring people from travelling.

 

“Don’t make us waste our time in the airport only to find out we are barred. They (Immigration Department) should inform those affected in advance,” the DAP vice-chairperson said.

 

She asserted the barred person should be given details, such as which authority placed the ban, and the reason for it.
