PMO tells Muhyiddin to be patient

The Prime Minister's Office has asked Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to be patient and wait for the outcome of the probes on 1MDB.

"Investigations are ongoing and we must provide room for those involved to perform their duties.

"Thus, everyone, especially members of the administration including the deputy prime minister, must wait for the outcome of the investigations.

"We should avoid making statements which might cause negative public perception towards the country's leaders, government and Umno," read the statement.

This statements comes a day after Muhyiddin's vitriolic speech at the closing ceremony of the Cheras Umno division annual general meeting last night.

During his one-hour speech, Muhyiddin said the 1MDB controversy had caused negative sentiments against Umno.

He said such ground sentiments would result in Umno's defeat in the next general election if it is called soon.

Fact sheet given

Muhyiddin, who described 1MDB as a " sovereign debt fund ", said he had advised Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on multiple occasions on how to handle the matter but was ignored .

He also voiced support for calls to make public the National Audit Department's interim report on its audit of 1MDB's books.

Muhyiddin also complained that cabinet members were not properly briefed on the 1MDB controversy, resulting in him resorting to reading up on the matter through The Edge Financial Daily.

The PMO dismissed this claim by stating that cabinet members had been provided with a "fact sheet" on 1MDB.

The PMO added that the instruction for the Auditor-General and Public Accounts Committee to investigate the matter, was a cabinet decision.
