'How do you know RM2.6b went to polls?'
Speculation has been rife that the RM2.6 billion deposited into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s personal bank accounts was used for campaign purposes in the last general election.
However, an Umno leader said there is no conclusive proof of this.
"How do you know RM2.6 billion was used for the general election? He (Najib) never said that,” Tajuddin Abdul Rahman told Malaysiakini yesterday.

However, an Umno leader said there is no conclusive proof of this.
"How do you know RM2.6 billion was used for the general election? He (Najib) never said that,” Tajuddin Abdul Rahman told Malaysiakini yesterday.
"MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) said the money went into the account held by Najib. But how do you know how much was spent on election?" Tajuddin ( photo ) asked.
The Umno supreme council leader also argued that the Election Commission (EC) did not question whatever was spent on the general elections.
“The reports (on election spending) submitted to them (EC) were in order and complied with the capped expenses in accordance with election laws," Tajiddin said.
"So, what is the problem now?" he asked.
Opposition will continue to concoct stories
According to Tajuddin, who is also a deputy minister, the sum could have also been used to fund party programmes and other expenses.
"We don't only need money for elections, we need money for the running of the party throughout the year," he explained.
Although MACC has cleared the prime minister, Tajuddin said, his detractors and the opposition would continue to hurl allegations and concoct stories.
"Of course, the opposition and the people who think nothing else than to see the government collapse will not be happy," he said.
"But we don't care what the opposition says. We care only to comply with the party constitution and laws," he stressed.
Yesterday, MACC said based on its investigations, the RM2.6 billion in Najib’s accounts was political donation and did not come from 1MDB funds.
