Johor MCA Youth claimed today Prime Minister Najib Razak's praise for the red shirt rally has deviated from the moderate stand and 1Malaysia ideology he had advocated.

"We feel he, as the premier and BN chairperson, had made an inappropriate statement," said Johor MCA Youth chief Koo Choon Peng.

Following the Pasir Gudang MCA Youth announcement to cut ties with the prime minister, the 25 division chiefs of the southern state had discussed the matter through WhatApps, according to Koo.

"We will convey our opinion to the MCA central leadership and MCA Youth at a briefing on Thursday," he said.

When asked the next move of Johor MCA Youth since it wasn't happy with Najib's remark, Koo said they will follow the central leadership's advice.

While the Johor MCA Youth respects Pasir Gudang's decision to sever ties with Najib ( photo ), most of the leaders felt such drastic action was not needed, he added.

"This is on a case-by-case basis. This does not represent Johor MCA Youth's stand. We respect their decision, they have a right to do so," he said.

'Racial epithets'

The Sept 16 rally was called by National Silat Federation to “defend Malay dignity” but was marred with racial epithets hurled against the Chinese community.

It was in retaliation for the mostly-Chinese attended Bersih 4 rally, which urged Najib’s resignation.

Najib on Friday thanked all who attended the ‘Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu’, saying the red shirts had done very well to gather peacefully and without causing any provocation.

However Pasir Gudang MCA Youth's decision has drawn flak from its Umno Youth counterpart.

Pasir Gudang Umno Youth had criticised them for acting in a “rash and desperate” manner, and that they had forgotten that MCA needs Umno more than Umno needs MCA.

"All the BN component members are equal, and we are complementary to each other," Koo responded, dismissing the claim that MCA needs Umno more.

Koo didn't view Bersih 4, which call to pressure Najib to step down, had a racial element.

"Regrettably, the majority who attended were Chinese," he noted.
