Pakatan Harapan parties today conducted a symbolic walkabout at Kuala Lumpur's Petaling Street today in solidarity with the traders there following threats of rallies there.

Led by DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, about 15 leaders from his party along with PKR and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) walked around the area spreading the message of unity.

National Laureate A Samad Said, who recently joined DAP, said he did not want to see the multi racial Petaling Street, which he has frequented for decades, becomes a land of feuds.

"I frequently shopped here. I don't like it when I discover a bunch of people want to soil it.

"We must not turn this place into a land of feuds just because we want a bit of a mileage.

"This is a place for the arts, history and food," Samad told reporters.

Those behind the red shirts rally on Sept 16 had threatened to rally again at the traditional historic Chinese shopping district today.

However the plans were reportedly aborted last night following the arrest of red shirts frontman Jamal Md Yunus.

Jamal maintains he has nothing to do with the rally.

Meanwhile Amanah Central Committee member Hu Pang Chow said all Malaysians are brothers and no one should disturb other community of different races.

"We are all brothers. I call upon everyone who want to create chaos to revisit our roots. Let us live happily in this country," he said.

During the walkabout, Lim also encountered Gerakan entourage led by their public complaints bureau chief, Wilson Lau.

Police presence at Petaling Street is heavier than usual, with at least five police Jeep were parked near the main entrances.

There are no signs of rally participants with business going about as usual for the traders.

Uniformed policemen were also seen patrolling the area in groups.

Petaling Street, usually bustling with human traffic, is quiet today, but local say it could be due to the thick haze and Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations.
