Ku Li: BN MPs can vote down budget to oust PM
BN lawmakers have the right to vote against Budget 2016 if they feel it is necessary to oust Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said today.
"I don't think they'll vote against the budget by normal rules.
"But if they think on substantive issues that they should oppose the prime minister himself, not the budget, then they have the right to do it," Tengku Razaleigh told reporters outside Parliament.
The Gua Musang MP, better known as Ku Li, said this when asked on the stand of the BN backbenchers on the opposition's suggestion that Najib be voted out by rejecting Budget 2016.
Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia had also suggested that this would be a viable move instead of a motion for a vote of no confidence.
Asked what his personal stand was, Tengku Razaleigh said he would keep an open mind.
"Let's listen to what they have to say. We come to Parliament with an open mind and see the arguments that are presented," he added.
Najib will table Budget 2016 in the Dewan Rakyat tomorrow.
Various quarters, including his former mentor Dr Mahathir Mohamad, have called on the prime minister to step down over the allegations concerning 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion deposited into his personal bank accounts.
However, Najib has denied any wrongdoing and accused Mahathir of being part of a conspiracy to topple him.
