“EDUCATION for a better world” means more than fixating on student benchmarks and standardising grades, cramming for an exam or memorising endless facts and figures. Education has a significant effect not only on the student’s life but on the social and economic stability of every country worldwide. Iron-fisted, non-holistic educational methods found in most traditional schools have been thought to increase the number of student “drop-outs”, create a disgruntled, unmotivated work force and a flat-lining economy, which can be observed in many developed countries today. It has been known for a long time that education must reform to take into account the ever changing future and technologically advanced world we live in today. We must educate our children to be global citizens with skills and knowledge to face the many unknown challenges of the 21 st century.
The basic duty of an educator is not to simply fill our children’s minds with endless knowledge but to also guide them in preparation for the future, help nurture them to be life-long learners and proficient with skills to succeed in these ever changing times. Only by doing this can we progress economically and socially, as well as move towards greater innovative ideas and concepts to make this world a better place for the future.

To support the students growing global consciousness, pupils participate in community and service pastimes. Fairview’s innovative approach to learning has allowed the school to offer a new programme never seen before in Malaysia. This ground-breaking landmark programme emphasizes the importance of mother tongue languages, exposing students to the cultures and traditions of that language. Mandarin has been selected by Fairview because of its increased uptake throughout the world and its significant contribution to the various traditions and values in Malaysian society. This programme allows students to master the Chinese language, and in doing so, they begin to appreciate 5000 years of Chinese history and culture while simultaneously mastering the English language. The success of this new programme will see Fairview explore Malay and Korean as available mother-tongue languages in the near future.
