Cooking for charity to help kids with Abang Brian

Today, the name "Abang Brian" can be considered synonymous with the creative development of children through food and cooking in Malaysia. But Brian Chen's path didn't begin with food from the outset.

After working as an internal auditor for quite a while, Brian began to reconsider his lifestyle and career choices. Finding more meaning in cooking and helping children, he eventually joined the Young Chefs Academy Malaysia (YCA), which aims to develop children, from ages three to seventeen, through lessons in such topics as food and cooking and became a partner in the business.

Now, the author of two cookbooks and host of his TV show about cooking for kids, comes Cooking with Kids , a cookbook designed for kids who are keen to learn how to handle and prepare food in the kitchen.

As Brian strongly believes that cooking provides an avenue for children to learn science, maths, hygiene and culture, the book also has tips and information on the aforementioned and fun science experiments. He also feels cooking encourages children to adopt healthier eating habits and fosters a sense of confidence.

This book will be officially launched in an event called "Family Day Out with Abang Brian" on 24 January 2015, 10am to 5pm at the Open Parking Square at Jalan 26/70a, Desa Sri Hartamas. MPH Group Publishing gets to work along with official media and event partners: Parenthood Magazine, AFO Radio, National Cancer Society Malaysia, Ramsay Sime Darby, Young Chefs Academy and Teach for Malaysia.

There will be a Family Day Bazaar, featuring children, food, family and lifestyle vendors. It is a fundraiser for children with cancer, organized by a collaborative movement started by Abang Brian with the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM), called Kids Helping Kids (KHK).

An attempt to create the Largest Food Art Mural by Kids 12.27 metres by 7.53 metres will also take place, using an assortment of dried food such as pasta, beans, grains and spices. An estimated minimum of 1,025 kids are needed to complete the mural, where each kid will be

given a 10 X 10 inches cake board to decorate on and make up the mural. This is also a project aiming to make a record into the Malaysia Book of Records.

Other events include cooking classes for kids by Young Chef Academy (YCA), health talks and workshops by the event’s healthcare partner, Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC)
