Canon’s Pixma E-series debunks the ever-present myth that ink has to cost a bomb if you buy a printer.
Low cost has been the centrepiece behind the engineering of the Canon E460 and E400 as the devices have been targeted to the demographic of students and home users. Canon has therefore put ink efficiency at the heart of the machines’ design.
While the average black ink cartridge costs upwards of RM70 and can only print from 200 to 225 pages per cartridge, the Pixma E-series cuts the prices of the black ink cartridges to less than half at RM 30 while at the same time doubling the number of pages printed to 400 A4 sheets.
Canon’s E-series starts at RM 254 for the E400 and ranges upwards. The E460 specifically, is a scanner, copier, and printer in a single compact machine.
The E470, E560 and E480 models also feature a built in wireless capability and support for cloud services that allows users to print documents directly off their mobile devices.
Despite hailing from the lower end of the E-series, we found that the colour of the E460’s photo prints were both vibrant and crisp and could easily pass off as a professional machine.
Printing black A4’s takes a hair over a minute while colour photos were kept under two minutes.
The higher end of the E series such as the E560 can carry out duplex printing, and while the lower end models such as the E460 still has the feature, the user will have to manually turn and feed the paper back into the machine for it to be done on the opposite side.
The Canon E-series printer also comes with a three-year warranty and 1-to-1 onsite exchange for those in Peninsular Malaysia.
As a whole, the Canon E-series is an affordable multi-function printer that offers high performance without emptying the wallet, and with machines like these, it’s no wonder Canon has held the No.1 Ink jet printer title since 1996.
