In the fight against Covid-19, the Suria KLCC Group is ensuring that a very important group of stakeholders are not neglected: its frontliners.

In this spirit, the Suria KLCC Group, which manages Suria KLCC, Alamanda Shopping Centre and Mesra Mall, organised an appreciation event for its frontliners, consisting of nearly 200 personnel from the maintenance, cleaning, sanitising and security departments who have been working tirelessly for the past six months for the health and safety of their patrons amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

Depending on location, these personnel were treated to lunch at Serai at Suria KLCC, Secret Recipe at Alamanda, and Nandos at Mesra Mall, respectively. The event at Suria KLCC stretches over three days (August 26-28), while the one at Mesra Mall runs over two days from August 25-26 in order to accommodate everyone’s roster. At Alamanda, the event was split across three sessions over a single day on 27 August so that each of the 91 persons will get to attend.

Who are the frontliners?

“With many corporations and agencies honouring frontliners such as the army, police and health care workers, we decided to focus on a group which is not any less important. We tip our hats to our dedicated workforce i.e. our security officers, sanitising crew, housekeeping personnel, maintenance crew and concierge for monitoring every situation within the Suria KLCC Group to provide the safest possible environment for everyone,” said Andrew Brien, CEO of Suria KLCC Sdn. Bhd.

The Unsung Heroes of Suria KLCC

“They are our unsung heroes who have served the customers and shoppers without fanfare since the first day the country detected the virus as well as during the Movement Control Order (MCO) until today,” added Brien.

The appreciation event was not just about lunch, as the frontliners get to share their stories and experiences. For example, Mohamad Norhafizi Nasruddin from Suria KLCC’s security department, who is now much richer in experience in safeguarding the mall after several months of the MCO.

“It was challenging for me because we did not have any template to handle this type of unprecedented situation. After all, Covid-19 is a new disease, and at first, everyone was thinking hard on how to ensure safety, security and compliance with the Government’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)”, said Mohamad Norhafizi Nasruddin.

He added, “In the end, as more clarity emerged, and with the aid of technology such as thermal scanners and the dedication of our management and team, we managed to put in place a workable workflow that can ensure a high degree of safety while not affecting shoppers’ experience. In this month of Merdeka, we wish that this country could enjoy freedom from Covid-19. While waiting, we will uphold our vigilance and continue to work.”

The Unsung Heroes of Alamanda Shopping Centre

In charge of housekeeping within Alamanda, Calvin Tan said, “My team keeps the mall clean for the shoppers by increasing the cleaning frequency, disinfect all wash hand basins, doorknobs in the toilets, wipe and sanitise all the lift buttons and handrails of the escalators. We are adhering to the Government’s SOPs to ensure the safety of everyone.”

Security personnel at Mesra Mall

Siti Aminah and her colleagues from Mesra Mall are truly touched by the gesture, even if it was just a simple lunch. Siti Aminah said, “I feel really appreciated by the management for taking the trouble to arrange this appreciation meal and session. This shows that the Suria KLCC Group does care about its frontliners”.

She added, “And if my effort as the sanitising crew can help improve the situation during this pandemic, it is worth my sacrifice.”
