Malaysia’s No 1. Total Coatings Provider, Nippon Paint has contributed over 1,000 litres of its latest innovation, the first anti-viral and anti-bacterial paint, Nippon Paint VirusGuard, to Hospital Sungai Buloh in appreciation to their frontliners’ dedication and efforts during this unprecedented time.
Since the breakout of the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia in December 2019 and throughout the various phases of the Movement Control Order (‘MCO’) to date, the frontliners at Hospital Sungai Buloh have shown utmost commitment, dedication and courage towards the health and safety of Malaysians. Working tirelessly around the clock to flatten the curve of COVID-19 cases, they have played a crucial role in safeguarding our community. In light of the current rise of COVID-19 cases nationwide, it is critical for everyone to play their part in adhering to safety and hygiene measures to flatten the curve during this challenging time.
In appreciation of their efforts, Nippon Paint has specifically selected its Nippon Paint VirusGuard anti-viral, anti-bacterial paint for the repainting of the hospital premise. This comes under the #RuangSelamat initiative which is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts to create a safer indoor environment for all. More importantly so for frontliners who are the highest risks as they continue to save lives and help keep the nation safe during this crucial time.
An environmentally-friendly coating solution, the Nippon Paint VirusGuard’s use of the Silver Ion Technology is effective in preventing the spread of viruses and bacteria through a three-step approach:
deactivation of the function of viruses and bacteria
reducing its ability to multiply and reproduce and;
inhibiting its growth which ultimately causes the death of the bacteria and viruses
Recently launched in the Malaysian market, the Nippon Paint VirusGuard was tested against the Human Coronavirus, ATCC VR-740, strain 229E by Analytical Lab Group and utilises the Silver Ion Technology which demonstrated a 99.9% reduction in viral titre upon contact of the virus on the paint film. The human coronavirus (strain 229E) is the first coronavirus strain identified in the family of viruses, linked to common cold symptoms and respiratory tract infections. In addition to the human coronavirus, the Nippon Paint VirusGuard is also effective in mitigating the growth of viruses and bacteria such as the hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD), Influenza A (H1N1), Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
“Our frontliners are at the forefront of ensuring the health and safety of our community and as such, Nippon Paint expresses our utmost gratitude for their selfless efforts particularly during this challenging time. As part of Nippon Paint’s wellness journey, we have continuously recognised the importance of creating a safe environment at all times through uplifting of spaces and elevating their safety by providing them with the right coating solutions. With this in mind, aside from remaining vigilant and adhering to health and safety SOPs, we want to emphasise to all Malaysians on the importance of maintaining a healthy level of indoor wellness through this #RuangSelamat initiative,” said Datin Wong Meng Lee, Assistant General Manager of Marketing, Nippon Paint Malaysia.
