SELANGKAH is proud to announce the release of Malaysia's first integrated digital solution for Covid-19 contact tracing and rapid screening via its Community Screening Portal.

Launched in May this year as the country’s first contact tracing system, SELANGKAH once again pioneered a new digital solution to ensure that individuals who were traced before can now be screened and tested rapidly. This is to close the gap of Contact Tracing backlogs that are currently weighing down the healthcare system.

The SELANGKAH Community Screening Portal provides a system-wide integration between contact tracing, rapid testing and diagnosis, reporting as well as monitoring that is currently fragmented. Our development philosophy rapidly builds on the Find, Trace, Test, Isolate, Support (FTTIS) system as recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Well-received by the community

Accessible through https://screening.selangkah.my, the portal was initially deployed on Wednesday (Dec 2) in Meru, Klang where a targeted screening for residents was organised by the Selangor state government.

Local community leaders (ketua kampung and state assemblymen) were tasked with prepping their community to pre-register on the portal a day in advance. This is to increase workflow efficiency, as many of the frontliners were donned in PPE and their capacity to register patients would be limited.

“69% of the participants had pre-registered. This shows that digitalisation helps expedite contact tracing matters in curbing the spread of the virus,” Selangor Menteri Besar YAB Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari tweeted.

Utilising the new digital solution, the team managed to screen 44.2% of the targeted population within five hours, exceeding the initial target of only 10%, with results being made available within 24 hours.

In order to ensure proper streamlining of case reporting, the results of this test are shared seamlessly with the Health Ministry through its centralised Public Health Laboratory Test Result System (SIMKA) and e-notification portal.

All parties contributed

In line with WHO’s ‘whole of government’ and ‘whole of society’ approaches, this programme mobilises local community leaders, grassroots communities, the state government and its agencies (SELCARE), a non-governmental organisation (IMARET) and the Klang district health office.

The public is encouraged to register in order to receive alerts from the state government when a free screening programme will be made available near them.
