The symbolic costumes, graceful body movements, abhinaya (expressions) and mudras (gestures and sign language) will transport you to a different level, as you appreciate this sensual and lyrical dance form of love and passion, which originated from Odisha, Eastern India.

With the gradual lifting of the movement control order, many sectors affected by the pandemic, can now breathe a sigh of relief. One such industry which had to take a backseat during the past year, was the performing arts.

Triple Frontiers, an ode to Odissi, scheduled to be staged last year, which had to be postponed following the pandemic, not only once, but twice, will now, finally be staged at the PJ Civic Centre Auditorium.

The curtain rises on Friday, 9th April at 8pm, with a Gala Fundraising Premiere, and invitations are by donations of RM50, RM80 or RM150.

This will be followed by two nights of performances on 10th and 11th April respectively, with invitation by donation of RM40 or RM60.

In this Malaysian premiere, Sutra Foundation, under the guidance and artistic direction of Datuk Ramli Ibrahim, will be showcasing and celebrating the Odissi works of three women dance-makers – Sujata Mishra, Parwati Dutta and Meera Das.

These 3 ladies, who started training under dance masters Pankaj Charan, Kelucharan Mahapatra and Debaprasad Das decades ago have now become choreographers in their own rights, and have dance schools of their own.

This, being the first time, the foundation is staging prominent works by female gurus, will be an ensemble that promises a fresh outlook and creative repertoires performed by artistes of Sutra Foundation and Sutra Dance Outreach Program, under the watchful eye of Rajee Alagendra, the Executive Producer of this show.
