The American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) is proud to announce that our member company, Micron Memory Malaysia Sdn Bhd through its foundation arm has contributed a total of RM1,072,469.97 to the MY AMCHAM CARES Covid-19 Fund. Since the start of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in March, 2020, AMCHAM member companies have come together to support the community with supplies to provide immediate access to vital personal protective equipment (PPE) and more. These contributions have come from immediate available inventory or in terms of donations.

“We are proud to see our members playing a substantive role and being a part of the solution in this fight against COVID-19.” said Siobhan Das, CEO of AMCHAM.

Micron Memory Malaysia Sdn Bhd, in partnership with AMCHAM, has allocated RM680,000 of the total funds to a select group of organizations, allowing the recipients to continue their good work. These organizations directly impact the B40, refugees, Orang Asli and the stateless communities - helping them to ease the burden caused by the pandemic. A portion of this allocation will also be provided to schools in Penang (Butterworth), Kedah (Sg. Petani) and Johor (Muar) to ensure that students are well equipped with PPE to remain vigilant of the virus as they return back to school. The remaining funds will be channelled towards initiatives that are deemed fit by Micron Memory Malaysia which will be decided when the need arises.

“We are working closely with local Malaysian communities to provide financial and in-kind donations to alleviate the challenges people are facing, from our front line health care workers to our most vulnerable families.” said Amarjit Sandhu, Vice President of Micron Memory Malaysia.

This contribution is part of the continuous effort by AMCHAM through the MY AMCHAM CARES program to coordinate the quick and effective deployment of resources to the respective organizations by U.S. businesses. The program evolved from initially providing in-kind safety supplies to the frontliners to including the much needed support for the vulnerable communities affected by the threat of the coronavirus.

Today, we are delighted to have with us The Honorable Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir, the U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia, along with Amarjit Sandhu, Vice President of Micron Memory Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Siobhan Das, CEO of AMCHAM to present the cheque to seven (7) NGO’s: Rotary Club of Muar, Rotary Club of Sg Petani, Rotary Club of Butterworth, Accelerate Global, EPIC Homes, School for the Mentally Retarded Children (Penang) and Refuge for the Refugees.

“The true dedication to corporate social responsibility, giving back to the communities in which we operate, is to me the best of American business values combined with the best of Malaysian societal values, said Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir, U.S. Ambassador. “It is a combination that works in good times and bad. I could not be more proud of the more than $7 million contributed through donations and in-kind contributions by AMCHAM members throughout the global pandemic.”
