In 2020 key sectors in Malaysia were greatly affected which can be observed from Malaysia’s negative growth rate for GDP. Which in turn contributed to the increase of retrenchment and unemployment rate in Malaysia. Many companies had to dismiss employees to ensure sustainability or due to bankruptcy. Seeing the current situation the threat of retrenchment becoming a norm again in 2021 concerned many in Malaysia. Furthermore, according to the data on unemployment published by the Department of Statistics Malaysia, it can be observed that youth below age 30 have a higher unemployment rate than those above 30. This leads to youth’s lives being affected a lot especially for those whose job’s ensure they can get basic necessities like rent, food and utilities. Thus the advancement and improvement of remote working and the virtual economy are being focused again as in March 2020. This is because it played a major role in helping companies with expenses reduction which improves sustainability and reduces the need to dismiss more employees. Which helps reduce the unemployment rate in Malaysia especially struggling youths.

In light of the crisis, youths are facing, organizations are taking initiatives to help relieve the struggles of unemployed youth especially in current times where inadequate support is provided to them. These efforts focus on assisting them to get placements by creating or boosting awareness on job opportunities or developing their capabilities to ensure they are constantly still employable within the reasonable market needs of employers while seeking opportunities.

AIESEC in Malaysia seeks to support the youth struggling through both aspects. On top of that, AIESEC in Malaysia has been extending its assistance to Malaysian youth and worldwide as they see similar struggles globally. Their initiatives differ from most as the experience they wish to provide these future pillars with an experience to develop their potential through international internships.

This experience is Global Talent, which connects young talents and companies worldwide via internship opportunities. It aims to contribute to youth's personal development and companies organizational growth with the challenging yet fruitful working experience. The cross-cultural experience fosters people's leadership skills and cultural acumen, which are crucial in moving the business world forward with multiple perspectives and better leadership in the workplace.

With the kick-in of COVID, Global Talent has evolved from a physical network to a remote network, which is even more convenient in connecting people without geographical limitation. Remote working aligns with what the current Malaysian government has launched to help ease the COVID-19 situation without bringing tremendous damage to the economy and companies' sustainability. This also allows the Global Talent program to aid and service companies in Malaysia to benefit from virtual foreign talents in their workforce despite the limitations and obstacles. Remote is the New Normal of Today, and Remote Talent & Opportunities are wanted next.
