2023, September: Penang introduces a brand new edu-tainment experience just outside the city – Vanilla Village Experiential Farm Tours! Whether you are looking for a fun yet educational activity to enjoy with your family, or if you are interested in sustainable farming techniques and the future of food production, this is the place for you.

Innovated, built and managed by Malaysia’s up-and-coming brand, Kairos Agriculture, one of the country’s most exciting new agricultural groups, the smart farm specialises in the cultivation of vanilla and is located on 6 acres of prime land in Permatang Pauh Agro-Park & Integrated Eco-Farm (PPAP) in Seberang Perai, Penang, approximately 25 minutes from the Penang Bridge.

The award-winning smart farm offers an inside look into the science, processes and agri-technology of a sustainable, chemical-free farm. Featuring the world’s 2nd most expensive spice, vanilla, Kairos Agriculture has a pending patent for their own vanilla planting module that is able to regulate and maintain the optimum growth environment for highly sensitive vanilla plants, which are known as one of the most difficult crops to grow.

During the tour, visitors will get to explore the various equipment and learn hands-on the processes of smart farming such as the self-watering system, sensors that can detect any changes in the environment, pest control filters, the modern climbing frames known as vanilla modules which combine traditional methods and the latest technology, as well as tissue and culture propagation techniques.

Best of all, the farm is 100% chemical-free and sustainably built with a customised waterfall design rain-water harvesting system, vermi-compost farm, vegetable patch and fruit orchard. The aquaponic rainwater harvesting pond is also home to over 20,000 Tilapia fishes who help to naturally filter debris and organic waste in the water supply. Visitors can also feed the fishes, learn about the worms that generate the vermicompost and take Insta-worthy photos amongst the scenic rows of vanilla vines, the colourful rainbow walk and more.

Completing the sensory adventure is a tasty session at The Vanilla Café by Kairos with one free refreshing beverage for tour participants. Created based on a ‘farm-to-table’ concept, The Vanilla Café offers some hand-crafted food and drinks that use certain ingredients, such as vegetables grown on the farm itself for a truly delicious taste of sustainably-grown produce.

Listed as Malaysia’s 1st and Largest Vanilla Smart Farm in the Malaysia Book of Records, the Vanilla Village is now open to the public, for private or group tours, perfect for families, agriculture enthusiasts as well as school or corporate events. So, instead of your usual weekend mall scrawl and café hopping, why not spend a fun day outdoors learning and exploring at the Vanilla Village Experiential Farm Tour? Book now!

Vanilla By Kairos

Known as one of the most difficult crops to cultivate, vanilla is produced commercially in perhaps only 15 countries across the world. Kairos is believed to be one of the first in Malaysia to grow vanilla using agritech.

Choosing to cultivate two of the most in-demand vanilla orchid species, Vanilla Tahitensis and Vanilla Planifolia, Kairos is looking forward to its first bumper harvest, estimated at the end of 2024. Vanilla by Kairos aims to secure a significant presence in the multi-billion-dollar vanilla industry.

Currently, Kairos is trading in premium, top-grade vanilla pods from Papua New Guinea. Other vanilla products sold include vanilla powder and more.

For enquiries to purchase vanilla pods or products, please contact our sales at +60 17-818 8174.
