KPJ Healthcare Berhad (“KPJ Healthcare” or “the Group”) is advancing healthcare transformation for its hospitals with the launch of the ‘Year of AInnovation’ campaign to elevate the integration of artificial intelligence (“AI”) and innovation in its operations, with patient centricity being the key driver in this initiative.
Several key programmes are in the pipeline for this campaign, including an innovation initiative - the KPJ Redefining Aspirations for Tomorrow (K.R.A.F.T.) Challenge 2025, in the campaign launch event organised today.
In the same event, KPJ Healthcare also signed a Memorandum of Understanding for its collaboration with Angsana Health Sdn. Bhd. (“Angsana Health”) to introduce Melati, an AI-powered medical history-taking platform designed to enhance diagnostic accuracy, streamline consultations and reduce patient waiting times.

"AI is not just a tool — it is a catalyst for transformation. Through the KPJ Health System, we are embedding AI into our hospitals under the Year of AInnovation to create a smarter, more efficient and patient-centric healthcare system. AI is allowing us to work faster, diagnose with greater accuracy and improve healthcare access — while keeping the human touch at the heart of everything we do”, said Chin Keat Chyuan, President & Managing Director of KPJ Healthcare.
The ‘Year of AInnovation’ builds on KPJ Healthcare’s existing initiatives on A.I. AI-driven solutions are already being deployed across its hospitals, such as AI Retinal Scanning for early detection of diabetic retinopathy and AI Imaging for Lung Cancer Screening. The Group has also collaborated with other partners to expand its 5G-enabled telemedicine, AI-powered diagnostics and holographic imaging solutions. KPJ Healthcare University (“KPJU”) is also introducing AI and Data Science courses as part of its programme.

Beyond AI adoption, KPJ Healthcare is investing in homegrown innovation through the K.R.A.F.T. Challenge 2025, an initiative under the Year of AInnovation that focuses on turning visionary ideas into real-world healthcare solutions.
“The K.R.A.F.T. Challenge 2025 is about finding real solutions that make a measurable impact on healthcare delivery. We are not just encouraging innovation for the sake of it — we want ideas that lead to tangible change," said Chin.
The K.R.A.F.T. challenge also aims to accelerate advancements in AI and digital health, clinical excellence, operational efficiency, sustainability and biotechnology. At the same time, it also provides an opportunity for mentorship and commercialisation for healthcare innovators.

Winners will receive mentorship, business development support and access to the KPJ Research & Innovation Centre (“KPJRIC”), where selected projects will be piloted for real-world implementation across KPJ hospitals. They will also have the opportunity to win a share of the RM137,000 prize pool, including grand prizes of RM35,000 and RM10,000 for the champions in the Open and University/College Students categories, respectively.
The competition is open to KPJ employees, healthcare professionals, university students, researchers and startups in Malaysia. Proposal submissions will be accepted from 1 March to 30 September 2025, followed by pitching sessions in October and finalist announcements in November. The grand finale will take place at MIH Megatrends 2025 on 25 November 2025. For more details and to submit proposals, please visit www.kpjhealth.com.my/kraftchallenge
In addition to driving AI adoption, KPJ Healthcare is shaping the next generation of AI-driven healthcare professionals through KPJ Healthcare University (“KPJU”). Recognising AI’s transformative potential, KPJU offers AI and Data Science courses to equip healthcare professionals, researchers and students with essential skills for a digital healthcare landscape. These programmes cover AI in medical practice, digital health leadership and AI-powered healthcare operations, reinforcing KPJ’s commitment to innovation.
