Reinforcing its commitment to Green Healthcare and a sustainable future, KPJ Healthcare Berhad (“KPJ Healthcare” or “the Group”) is pleased to announce it is now a member of the United Nations Global Compact (“UNGC”), the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. With this, KPJ Healthcare becomes Malaysia’s first public-listed healthcare provider to participate in UNGC.

As a member of UNGC, KPJ Healthcare aligns itself with a global network of over 25,000 companies across 160 countries committed to ethical and responsible business practices. This initiative reinforces the Group’s dedication to the Ten Principles of the UNGC, which focus on human rights, labour standards, environment and anti-corruption. As part of this commitment, KPJ Healthcare will continue embedding sustainability within its core business strategies, ensuring meaningful impact across its operations and governance.
Launched in 2000, the UNGC is a multi-stakeholder platform that supports the development, implementation and reporting of sustainable business practices. It aligns businesses with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (“UNSDGs”), providing a shared roadmap towards a more sustainable future. Participation in the UNGC signifies a strong commitment to transparency, accountability and sustainability, with organisations required to report their progress annually.
Chin Keat Chyuan, President and Managing Director of KPJ Healthcare said, “Today is a proud milestone for KPJ Healthcare as we officially become a member of the UNGC. As the first listed healthcare provider in Malaysia to take this step, we are reinforcing our role as a responsible corporate citizen, integrating sustainability into the core of our business. By joining UNGC, we are taking the next step to amplify our efforts, collaborate with like-minded partners and align with global best practices.”
“At KPJ Healthcare, our role extends beyond treating illness - it is about creating an environment where people can lead healthier lives. Sustainability is at the heart of this and we have already implemented initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint, enhance energy efficiency and strengthen our commitment to transparency and governance. By embedding these principles into our operations, we are building a responsible, ethical and sustainable healthcare system for the future,” added Chin.

As part of this initiative, KPJ Healthcare will actively engage in meaningful collaborations with fellow UNGC members, healthcare partners, policymakers and non-governmental organisations (“NGOs”) to advance its sustainability agenda within the healthcare sector. It will also leverage UNGC’s resources and educational programmes to drive impactful green hospital initiatives, foster sustainable supply chain practices and inspire broader environmental and social responsibility across its network of hospitals. These efforts further reinforce the Group’s sustainability goals and aspirations to contribute positively to the health of both people and the planet, while supporting the UNSDGs.
