Tropicana Foundation recently held its annual Furry Friends Programme 2025 at the Second Chance Animal Society (“SCAS”) in Hulu Langat, supporting over 500 rescued dogs and cats. Now into its fourth year, this programme has been a recurring part of the Foundation’s community engagement calendar and is held in conjunction with World Animal Day. This year saw the introduction of a new youth development element with 10 teenagers and 2 teachers from Desa Amal Jireh invited to join as volunteers, alongside the Tropicana Foundation and Tropicana Corporation Berhad teams. All volunteers contributed their time, energy, and compassion to cleaning kennels, drains, and the shelter grounds, highlighting the spirit of giving back beyond urban environments and gained first-hand exposure to grassroots rescue conditions.

Serena Lim, Senior General Manager, Group Corp Comm of Tropicana Corporation Berhad and senior committee member of Tropicana Foundation shared, “Founded in 2011, Tropicana Foundation has been extending its support to underprivileged communities and animals. We have donated more than RM56 million across various associations and welfare programmes. Today, we came together with the support of DF Petrition as well as Desa Amal Jireh and Tropicana Corporation Berhad as we collectively donated pet food and volunteered the time and energy of the youths, aged between 12 and 17, and our employees, who cleaned, groomed and walked all 500 furry friends in SCAS. The Furry Friends Programme is about more than caring for animals; it’s about nurturing empathy in the next generation, strengthening community spirit, and supporting shelters that do life-saving work every day. It is also aligned with Tropicana Foundation’s initiative to reinforce its pillars of education, community, and well-being by combining animal welfare with youth engagement. My sincere appreciation for the generous support and kindness from all involved parties towards caring for the rescued animals.”

TROPICANA FOUNDATION FURRY FRIENDS PROGRAMME
At Tropicana Foundation, the core of our belief is supporting and caring for the well-being of our people and animals. Entering into its fourth year, the Tropicana Foundation Furry Friends Programme places importance on extending support from the various associations. Our partnership with SCAS saw support in the form of:
1. Pet food donation | sponsored RM3,000 worth of premium dog and cat food to support SCAS’s operations by DF Petrition Sdn Bhd,
2. Voluntary Manpower Support | 26 volunteers from Desa Amal Jireh and Tropicana Corporation Berhad to clean, groom and walk the pets, tidy up the compound of Second Chance Animal Society, and wash or clean up the pets' playhouses and sleeping areas.

SECOND CHANCE ANIMAL SOCIETY HULU LANGAT
Second Chance Animal Society (“SCAS”) began in September 2009 with the rescue of 12 orphaned puppies from a wet market in Jalan Kelang Lama. Today, it has grown into a registered non governmental organisation and operates as a no-kill animal shelter. Over the years, SCAS has rescued more than a thousand stray dogs across Selangor, with around half successfully rehomed. Located in Hulu Langat, the shelter currently houses over 500 dogs saved from injury, abuse, and abandonment. SCAS is driven by the belief that every dog deserves a second chance, working tirelessly with members and volunteers to restore each animal to health before finding them loving homes. Its mission centres on rehoming rescued dogs and promoting the principles of “Adopt, Don’t Buy” and “Neuter, Don’t Multiply to Save Lives.” Supporters can get involved by adopting, contributing, volunteering, donating, or connecting with SCAS through the webpage www.secondchance.com.my.
