This program is  aimed at uplifting the community, bringing relief to the 360 residents.

Reinforcing ESG community impact: Tropicana extended its support to the Ulu Gerik Orang Asli village by helping to improve its water supply systems and infrastructure. This initiative is a collaborative effort between Tropicana, Tropicana Foundation, as well as subsidiaries Tropicana Golf & Country Resort, Mesatria, and Mercu Inai.

Speaking at the completion and handover ceremony, Allan Wong, Managing Director of  Tropicana’s Project Division, said, “For many years, Tropicana has collaborated with the Perak  State Government, improving the communities together. We are pleased to note that our  upgrading program helped enhance the lives of the indigenous community in Perak. Beyond that,  we also donated food supplies and celebrated the unveiling ceremony with them, building a  better relationship. Aside from addressing our ESG commitments, this program is also aligned  with the Group’s United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (“UNSDG”) with a focus on good  health and wellbeing, promoting livable spaces for the people and the planet.”

Zakaria Bin Mohd Nor, Officer of Jabatan Kemajuan Orang Asli (JAKOA) Hulu Perak and Baling,  shared his thoughts on this exercise, saying, “The community in Kampung Ulu Gerik was facing  serious water supply issues and was under-resourced in terms of food. We are thankful to  Tropicana for stepping up to support and for improving their quality of life. We hope to  collaborate on more CSR initiatives to help the people.”

For the past 6 months, the Tropicana team worked closely with the Orang Asli community and its  contractor, delivering materials and ensuring the work was completed on time. The Orang Asli  community also chipped in to assist in the building works. Their existing water supply pipes were  replaced with larger pipes to improve water pressure and ensure a more consistent supply to the  community.

Chan Huan Hui, Senior Manager of Operations for Mesatria, emphasised, “The community living  within Ulu Gerik plays a crucial role in the maintenance of our plantation. It is only fitting that we  give back to them to ensure that they aren’t struggling in their own day-to-day when it comes to  food and water.”

Tok Batin Bili, Head of Ulu Gerik Orang Asli village, shared, “On behalf of the Ulu Gerik community,  we are very grateful for Tropicana and the team's valuable contribution. With this, we finally have  a proper water supply system in place. It will surely provide greater efficiency and benefits to the  community. We are also happy that the team showed up to celebrate the end of the upscaling  works and donated essential dry goods for our people.”

The unveiling event ended on a good note with residents engagements, dry goods handover and lunch gathering
