Malaysia’s sporting heroes are bringing their most memorable moments off the field and into a new form of celebration — pure gold. National badminton mixed doubles pair and real-life couple Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai, together with national swimmer Welson Sim, have unveiled the world’s first limited-edition pure gold collectible cards. The initiative transforms their sporting achievements and unyielding spirit into “golden memories,” celebrating perseverance and paying tribute to their loyal fans.

The exclusive collectibles are officially authorised and issued by theCOVER Asia in collaboration with Click Entertainment, the collectibles capture defining milestones from the athletes’ careers while symbolising the never-give-up spirit that resonates strongly with Malaysians. Each athlete said the initiative was a meaningful way to commemorate their sporting journey while allowing fans to share in memories forged through perseverance and dedication.

Creating a Shared Legacy with Fans

World top 10 mixed doubles duo Goh and Shevon, who continue to compete against the world’s top pairs, described the gold card launch as a meaningful and rare experience. Each athlete released an individual edition, offering fans a personal keepsake that reflects years of dedication on the international stage.

Goh said unwavering fan support has been crucial throughout the highs and lows of his career. “Being an athlete today requires strong discipline and mental toughness, not just on court but off it as well,” he said, adding that encouragement from supporters has helped him stay motivated through challenging periods.

Shevon shared that athletes are driven by more than medals alone. “It’s about constantly pushing our limits and growing beyond where we were yesterday,” she said. Calling the gold card a milestone moment, she added with a smile: “Chasing ‘gold’ seems inevitable in life — but this one is a shared memory with our fans.”

National swimmer Welson Sim, fondly known as Malaysia’s “Flying Fish Prince”, also embraced the symbolic value behind the initiative. The Olympian and national record holder in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle said the gold card represents patience, resilience and time.

Goh expressed gratitude to fans who have stood by athletes through both triumphs and challenges. “Competing in today’s era is not easy. Athletes need strong discipline, mental resilience and the ability to withstand external pressure and criticism,” he said, adding that unwavering fan support has played a crucial role throughout his career.

Shevon shared that athletes do not measure success by a single medal. “Our ultimate goal is continuous self-improvement, not short-term glory,” she said. As she approaches 2026, Shevon

described the gold card launch as a personal milestone, joking that “chasing ‘gold’ seems inevitable at some point in life — but this time, it symbolises a shared memory with our fans”.

Welson also took the opportunity to thank supporters who stood by him during difficult periods. “Your messages gave me strength to keep going. I hope this gold card becomes a shared memory between us, and I will continue striving to deliver better performances in return.”

Following their recent appearance at the BWF World Tour Finals 2025 in Hangzhou, Goh and Shevon have shifted their focus to preparations for the new season, maintaining daily training routines ahead of upcoming competitions. Both expressed hopes of delivering stronger performances at the Asian Championships in 2026 while continuing to refine their game.

Welson described 2026 as a “crucial year”, saying it marks the final years of his twenties. “I will give my all in every competition and explore new possibilities, aiming not only to break personal records but also to grow as an athlete while continuing to inspire others,” he said.
