Vale, a global pioneer in sustainable mining, has officially opened applications for the latest edition of the Teluk Rubiah Scholarship Programme (TRSP). The prestigious initiative underscores the company’s continued commitment in Perak, with the specific aim of cultivating the next generation of visionary leaders within the Manjung community.
Following the success of its previous editions, the latest rollout of TRSP continues to offer opportunities for Manjung’s top Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) scorers to pursue a world-class tertiary education, develop technical expertise and soft skills needed for a global career, in keeping with the evolving demands of the mining and related industries.
TRSP is designed as more than a financial assistance; it serves as a holistic investment in human capital whereby selected scholars are immersed in an academic environment that emphasizes sustainability, innovation and global citizenship. They are also encouraged to be participate in initiatives that support others, give back, and foster meaningful social impact alongside their academic and co-curricular pursuits. By integrating these core pillars, the programme ensures the youth of today are better prepared for the industrial landscape of tomorrow.
To ensure students can focus entirely on their academic excellence, the comprehensive scholarship package covers the full spectrum of educational needs, ranging from tuition fees to monthly living stipends, quality accommodation, essential IT equipment and learning resources.
For Vale, TRSP reflects continuity of its commitment to inclusive development. Education has the power to transform communities from within, equipping individuals with the knowledge, skills and confidence to pursue better opportunities and shape more secure futures – not only for themselves, but for their families and surrounding communities.
When good education is accessible, coupled with the tenacity and passion of bright minds, it can become a catalyst for long-term social and economic progress, strengthening both individual livelihoods and the resilience of communities. Beyond economic benefits, education also nurtures critical thinking, civic responsibility and community leadership – qualities that are essential for sustainable development. Vale hopes that through the learning experience, TRSP scholars will possess the global mindset and technical expertise required to lead the mining industry into the next decade.
Recognising this, education continues to be a central pillar of Vale’s Community Development Plan 2.0 (CDP 2.0). With a total investment of over RM17 million, which also entails initiatives geared toward urban rejuvenation and community empowerment, the plan is guided by local needs and sensibilities with the ultimate goal of enriching livelihoods while reflecting the values, aspirations and long-term vision of the Manjung community.
To date, the programme has nurtured 9 high-potential talent in engineering and finance, two of whom have graduated and begun their careers on a strong footing while the others are mid-way through their tertiary education, progressing well and performing with flying colours.
Reflecting on the impact of the programme, the scholars have noted how the TRSP connects their aspirations to global possibilities. One student shared: " TRSP didn't just open a door; it reduced the financial barriers that might have stood in the way. Being able to study at a top-tier university without the weight of financial stress has allowed me to give my all and focus on making the most of this opportunity for both personal and future professional growth. Vale has given us the tools to step into this exciting phase of university life with greater confidence and preparedness."
Another recipient highlighted how the support for driven, high-achieving youth acts as a catalyst for growth: "The opportunity to pursue my passion while being supported by a global leader in the field of my interest is truly a game-changer for me. It is incredibly rewarding to know that the dedication we showed during our academic journey is recognised and valued. I am eager to bridge theory with practical experience, deepen industrial knowledge and apply these skills meaningfully to help shape a resilient and responsible future for the mining industry. One day, I hope to bring specialised expertise back to my hometown and contribute to its dynamic growth story."
As the global industry shifts toward a low-carbon economy, these scholars and emerging talent are central to the effort, playing a vital role in driving transformation and contributing their knowledge, skills and insights to meaningful progress both within their communities and on the global stage.
Applications are now open until 11.59pm on 30 April 2026. Students can submit their entries on Vale’s website here.
