Kota Bharu, 4 June 2026 - KPJ Perdana Specialist Hospital (“KPJ Perdana”), part of KPJ Healthcare Berhad’s (“KPJ Healthcare” or the “Group”) network of hospitals, today marked the groundbreaking of a new hospital facility in Kota Bharu under the KPJ Health System (“KPJHS”), reflecting the Group’s continued efforts to prepare for future healthcare needs and strengthen specialist care capacity across its network.

The expansion is expected to improve access to more comprehensive specialist services within Kelantan and neighbouring states, particularly in areas such as oncology, critical care and advanced medical treatment. It is also intended to reduce the need for patients to travel outside the region for certain types of specialised care.

KPJ Perdana Specialist Hospital’s expansion is expected to improve access to more comprehensive specialist services within Kelantan and neighbouring states.

The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by the Menteri Besar of Kelantan, Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Panglima Perang Ustaz Dato’ Haji Mohd Nassuruddin Bin Haji Daud, joined by Chairman of KPJ Healthcare, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr Ismail bin Haji Bakar; President and Managing Director of KPJ Healthcare, Chin Keat Chyuan; and Chief Executive Officer of Perbadanan Kemajuan Iktisad Negeri Kelantan (“PKINK”) and Board Director of KPJ Perdana, Dato’ Sr Haji Zamri bin Haji Ismail.

He commented, “Access to quality specialist healthcare continues to grow in importance as healthcare needs evolve across the country, particularly within regional communities. This expansion reflects KPJ Healthcare’s continued commitment towards supporting long-term healthcare development in Kelantan and strengthening future treatment capacity for the East Coast region.”

Chin Keat Chyuan, President and Managing Director of KPJ Healthcare added, “Demand for oncology services, advanced treatment and more specialised care continues to grow across the East Coast region as healthcare delivery becomes increasingly complex. This expansion is important in strengthening access to more comprehensive treatment services within the region while supporting the continued advancement of specialist care under the KPJ Health System. Guided by our Care for Life purpose, we remain focused on ensuring our hospitals continue progressing alongside the healthcare needs of the communities we serve.”

Upon completion, the new facility is expected to increase KPJ Perdana’s capacity to more than 300 beds by 2030 and include more than 80 specialist consultation suites, additional operating theatres, intensive care units, dialysis services, day care facilities and a dedicated oncology unit equipped with radiotherapy capabilities to support future cancer treatment needs within the region.

Since its establishment in 2002, KPJ Perdana has grown into a 151-bed specialist hospital providing services across Cardiology, Orthopaedic, Paediatric and Surgical care.

The new facility is also expected to incorporate modern clinical infrastructure and digital systems, including Smart Ward capabilities, to support more efficient care coordination, patient monitoring and treatment delivery. Energy-efficient infrastructure will also be integrated as part of the Group’s broader sustainability efforts.

The expansion forms part of KPJ Healthcare’s broader efforts under the KPJ Health System to support more coordinated and future-ready care across its network as healthcare needs continue evolving within the East Coast region.
